HANCOCK, HERBIE WITH ALBERT HEATH & DON CHERRY
BARAKA (JAZZ WORLD)
These tracks feature a powerful 1969 collaboration of drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath and then-rising young pianist Herbie Hancock; Albert's brother Jimmy Heath on saxes; avant-gardists Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell on trumpet and percussion respectively; and virtuoso bassist Buster Williams.
Jimmy Heath's son James Mtume, who plays congas, also composed most of the tunes.
