Townsend gründen 2003 die Crystal Stilts und veröffentlichen ein Jahr später erste Singles und eine EP, produziert von Sean Mafucci (Kid Congo Powers).

Kyle Forrester, Andy Adler und Frankie Rose (Vivian Girls) kommen zur Band hinzu und es erscheint eine selbstbetitelte EP die einiges an Aufmerksamkeit erregt.

Im Oktober 2008 erscheint dann das Debütalbum "Alight Of Night". Die Band wird von Kritikern häufig mit Garagen-Pop-Bands aus Neuseeland verglichen.

Im April 2011 erschien das 2te Album "In Love with Oblivion". -> So, so true: "There aren't any hipsters in the back with their arms folded.
