PACI DALO & SCANNER
THE MAYA EFFECT (L'ARTE DELL'ASC)
Scanner's live collaboration with Italian artist and composer Roberto Paci Dalo was recorded in the hills of Vigna San Martino in Naples in 2009.
This release is an edit of an ambitious three-hour live outdoors performance at night. Completely improvised, with no rehearsals, filled with slippery rhythms, found voices, choirs and nervous energy, it's an elegiac and moving soundtrack of experimental electronica for a moment past.
At one moment jazzy, another cinematic, there no easy way to detect the imaginary musical story.
Active since 1991 Robin Rimbaud - known as Scanner - has been intensively active in sound art, producing concerts, installations and recordings.
He has remixed and collaborated with a wealth of artists across the arts, from Laurie Anderson, Bryan Ferry, Carsten Nicolai, Dangermouse, Michael Nyman, Luc Ferrari, and Mike Kelley amongst many others.
In 2007 he wrote the hit musical Kirikou in France and in 2008 designed the Wake Up Light with Philips.
Last year Scanner released his critically acclaimed "Blink Of An Eye' album with Matthew Shipp, scored several movies and more recently sound designed campaigns for Nike and the Rugby World Cup.
He is currently Visiting Professor at Le Fresnoy art school in France whilst acting a Musical Director on a major new project on Joy Division to be launched in 2012 at De La Warr Pavilion UK.
