Margot & The Nuclear So and So's formed in Indianapolis in 2004 as an umbrella under which a rotating group of friends could come together to record Richard Edwards' vast array of songs.

They still travel in the black United school bus that they bought with that first advance and converted into a mobile home, complete with nine very hard wooden bunks.

The band remains prolific, recording multiple albums since starting Mariel Recording Company in 2010, as well as releasing three 7"s, an EP, and three vinyl re-issues, and now a decade rarities box set.

The band members currently reside in Chicago and Indianapolis. "I see these 5 Margot records as one story.

A weirdo who was (is) obsessed with songwriting, trying to get through his 20's. I'm 31 now and I'm onto a new, different kind of record.

But those Margot records are my 20's. The boxset feels like an audio version of thezillion notebooks I've written those records in.

Some of the ideas are relatively fully formed, some are just little germs. You can see the different, perhaps better, ways each album could've come together.

Maybe it takes away a little bit from the magic, but I was always one to watch the special features on laserdiscs.

Mostly though, I hope it's the ultimate thank you to that small army of kids whose zealous love for this band have kept it going.

That's not just bullshit fan fluffury. I meet these kids, and they're 20 and shit. These lil' fuckers were 10 when that first record came out.

Geez Louise. Anyhow, it's a beautifully put together summation of one era of my life. I'm very grateful for all the people who shared it with me and who helped tell its story so lovingly in this set.

Man oh man." - Richard Edwards
