Fuck other people. They're not in the band. Just make music that stimulates you and don't second-guess yourself." Steve Albini Dieses Zitat des großen Produzenten Albini war es, welches in Martin Henrik Hasselgren, dem Mann hinter dem Namen Boy Omega, neue Energie und Kreativität entfachte.

Das letzte Mal ha-ben wir vor sechs Jahren von ihm gehört, als das Album "Full Moon Mantra" veröffentlicht wurde.

"It's Dangerous To Go Alone! Take This." ist Boy Omegas achtes Album seit seinem Debüt im Jahr 2004.

(Erinnert sich bei dem Albumtitel jemand an das Videospiel "The Legend of Zelda"?) Boy Omegas Musik, die akustische Elemente mit experimentellen elektronischen Beats, Field Recordings, Loops, Tonbändern, Game Boys und Streichorchestern mischt, ist ebenso zerbrechlich wie lebendig und kommt immer von ganzem Herzen.

Sie wurde bereits mit Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, The Cure, Björk, Xiu Xiu und New Order verglichen, um nur einige zu nennen.

I kinda liked that." Die Texte auf dem neuen Album "It's Dangerous To Go Alone! Take This." sind oft persönlich und auf drei Tracks ("Monkey", "Nyll" und "Daniel") singt Martin zum ersten Mal in seiner Karriere sowohl auf Schwedisch als auch auf Englisch.

Er selbst sagt dazu: "I have my friend Jari Haapalainen to thank for that. We have a new band together called För Levande & Döda (For the living and the dead) and Jari had this idea that I should write and sing in Swedish.

This has somehow always been an obstacle for me but after a while it came very natural and I think it gives the songs a more true and intimate feeling, especially the song Nyll that I wrote for my father who's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and the song Daniel that I wrote for a close friend." Der zuerst als Single veröffentlichte Song "In Love But Out of Sight" hingegen klingt wie eine sanfte Verschmelzung von The Notwist und "Streets of Philadelphia", gesungen im Duett mit Maja Milner von der Band Makthaverskan, und sei "one of those break up songs, but not all sad." Aufgenommen wurde der Song - wie das komplette Album - in Martins Heimstudio, ein winziges Lagerhaus in Nol, etwas außerhalb von Göteborg.

"It was all pretty much improvised and recorded on the spot in my home studio Camp Omega." Martins guter Freund Daniel Juline (von der Band EF) ergänzte das Klavierthema bei einer Probe.

"I really liked it. It sort of gave the song a "Streets of Philadelphia"-vibe. I hope Bruce would be proud." Neben Maja und Daniel halfen auch Macey Taylor (Bright Eyes, Jenny Lewis) bei "Kids" an der Bassgitarre, Jonathan Rosemark bei "Nyll" am Cello und Hanna Enlöf (Good Harvest) bei "Isolation" im Gesang.

Martin selbst hat es produziert, aufgenommen, gemischt und gemastert. In den letzten zehn Jahren hat Boy Omega unzählige Konzerte in ganz Europa gespielt und die Bühne mit Acts wie Isobel Campbell, Great Lake Swimmers, Maria Taylor, Christian Kjellvander, John Vanderslice und Mark Lanegan geteilt, um nur einige zu nennen.

Seit er 2003 begann, unter dem Namen Boy Omega Songs zu schreiben, hat Hasselgren ein beeindruckendes, umfangreiches Werk veröffentlicht; darunter sieben Alben, zwei Compilations mit unveröffentlichten Tracks, vier EPs und zahlreiche Singles.
