The seven-piece Star Feminine Band hails from a remote region in northwestern Benin. The group consists of young girls between the ages of nine and fifteen who are cheeky, carefree, and full of energy, mixing genres such as garage rock, pop, and traditional songs from their homeland.

Their self-titled debut album will be released on November 13, 2020, by Born Bad Records.Musician André Baleguemon had the idea in 2016 and put together an all-female band that addressed current issues.

The reason for his initiative:"In the north, girls have no opportunities to get ahead and women are marginalized.

I just wanted to show how important women are in northern Benin society by founding a female orchestra."Seven girls from the surrounding villages with Waama and Nabo backgrounds were chosen.

They didn't know much about music. Some of them had never even seen instruments like keyboards before.

But their musicality is impressive nonetheless. They now call themselves STAR FEMININE BAND.
